Estonia, as a modern sovereign nation, is 108 years old, having declared independence on February 24, 1918. However, it restored its independence on August 20, 1991, following Soviet occupation. The territory has been inhabited for over 11,000 years, with the first known settlement dating back to roughly 9000 BC.
